About the event
An Introduction to the Wonderful World of Willow
Join Westcountry Willows for a fascinating, hands-on introduction to one of nature's most versatile materials.
Discover the journey of willow from planting and growing, through harvesting, drying and preparation, to weaving. We'll talk about how willow is cultivated, when and how it is harvested, the different varieties we grow, and how the harvested rods are sorted, dried, soaked and prepared for weaving.
You'll also have the opportunity to see and handle willow at different stages of the process and learn about the traditional skills that turn a simple willow rod into something both beautiful and useful.
Then it's your turn.
With guidance from us, you'll weave your own small willow bird feeder to take home, giving you a chance to experience the material for yourself and learn some of the basic techniques of willow weaving.
